UEFA Cup

Post by j6pini on Sun Feb 22, 2009 8:44 pm

Okay, people have discussed possible UEFA Cup winners, but now I'm calling everyone out to put it all on the line and pick a single winner. It's such a crapshoot at this point to pick a winner, with 32 teams left, but what the heck?

Hamburg SV. I'm not just saying that because they happen to be #1 in Bundesliga, but I watched about a half hour of one of their games recently (UEFA Cup a few days ago I think), and they looked very good.

AC Milan. They shouldn't be in the UEFA Cup. They are a Champions League squad, so I don't see how they won't win it, and I will be very disappointed in them if they fail to bring home the Cup!

Bah! AC Milan will NOT win the UEFA Cup. They haven't impressed me all year, and I've watched a handful of their games in Serie A and UEFA. Thank God for Pato, otherwise they'd be so far out of the title race...

Ok, so the field has been narrowed down to 16. Here is a list of the lucky teams. Any surprises that moved on?

Dynamo Kiev
Zenit
St. Etienne
CSKA Moscow
Werder Bremen
Metalist
Hamburg
PSG
Galatasaray
Aalborg
Braga
Udinese
Shakhtar
Manchester City
Marseille
Ajax

Thoughts?

I can't believe my pick AC Milan got knocked out. Big win for Shakhtar...too bad for Tottenham. Big win for Manchester City! Too bad for Aston Villa, but the league title is more important. Awesome win for Ajax, that was a great 2nd leg to watch!

I'm going to be smug and say I CAN belive Milan were knocked out, see my previous post for details Very Happy . But credit Bremen for a great game, and a great game in the 1st leg too. I'm going to root not only for my pick, Hamburg, but also for Manchester City because I'd like to see the club's patience with Hughes be rewarded.
